Although Wladimir Sagal died before Claude Diallo was born, there is an artistic connection between the two of them. While Sagal was a painter, his grandson choose music as way to express himself. Since early childhood Claude Diallo grew up surrounded by the different paintings of Wladimir Sagal and in 2010 Claude Diallo decided to use one of his maternal grand father's artworks as his CD cover for the CD Now Then. The title has a double meaning and relates to the present and the past. The past being his grand fathers artwork and the present being his Jazz improvisation. The idea went further when Claude Diallo decided to choose one of his favorite paintings to be integrated in his website. Jazz is a free and improvised music and Claude Diallo expresses a lot of joy in his music. The chosen, impressionistic painting of Wladimir's final stage of painting, depicts this joy in a perfect manner. Only in his late years the painter started to use these kind of techniques and in Claude Diallo's opinion they show a true sense of improvisation, similar to his own compositions in Jazz music.
